Solo motherhood results from a woman raising her offspring in a planned manner without a partner. In this case, she is also a single parent, but the term single parent is often socially connoted by negative attributes, so solo motherhood must be distinguished from it. People usually become single parents involuntarily. However, if the woman does not care for the child alone, but with a father who shares care, she could also call herself a solo mother living in a co-parenting arrangement. It is the same at this point with a rainbow family, the solo mother could also be part of a rainbow family if she has her child grow up together with at least one gay man or is homosexual herself. Another constellation is women who already have at least one child from a previous partnership, but whose partnership no longer exists, and who wish to have a sibling. These women could also call themselves solo mothers.
